13th ELTA Albania International Conference - "Adjusting to New Realities in Education and Exploring New Ways of Teaching and Learning" 26-27 May 2023.

Research Centre in Human Sciences (CRISU), part of the Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in collaboration with the English Language Teaching Association ELTA Albania, TESOL International, and IATEFL organizes the 13th ELTA Albania International Conference in the field of education titled: “Adjusting to New Realities in Education and Exploring New Ways of Teaching and Learning”, on 26-27 May 2023.


This Conference was an important meeting of foreign and Albanian experts in the field of education from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Poland, the UK, the USA, etc and it had a massive participation of over 200 teachers, during the two days of the conference. Teachers came from different cities in Albania and the region. Educators and scholars from many countries had the opportunity to exchange ideas and practices, explore a wide range of topics and expand their professional networks. This conference aimed to help foreign language teachers in their professional development and stay up to date on the latest educational tools and techniques after the pandemic, as well as provide them with valuable resources to help engage students and make learning more effective. An important aspect of being a teacher is ongoing education. Teachers had a big interest in the conference, and it helped them to reflect on their teaching methods and gain insights into how they can improve their practice. The program included plenaries, presentations, and workshops.

The conference started on 26 May 2023 at 14.00 with the greetings of:

  • Prof. Leonardo PALOMBI, Magnificent Rector Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel”.
  • Mrs. Albana TOLE, Vice Minister of Education and Sports of the Republic of Albania.
  • Fr. Appolinaire ANGUISSA METOGO, Director of CRISU, Catholic University, “Our Lady of Good Counsel”
  • Ms. Aleksandra POPOVSKI, President of IATEFL, UK.
  • Dr. Elona MEHILLI, President of ELTA Albania, Professor Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel”.

On 26 May teachers attended the following plenaries:

  • George KOKOLAS, Academic Director and Teacher Trainer and Advanced Neurolanguage Coach presented “The ZEST Vaccine” and “Positive Education”.
  • Prof. Jon HIRD, Professor and writer, University of Oxford presented “Dyslexia and Learning English: Literacy and wider issues”.
  • Dr. Anita CAPRICE POWELL, Doctor of Philosophy, Honoris Causa, and a Doctor of Metaphysical Science, USA, presented “A new way of learning was forming to become a new normal, a norm.”
  • Prof. Christine Coombe, Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai Men’s College presented “The Quest for Academic Excellence in ELT”.

The second day of the conference,27 May 2023, started with the plenary of Aleksandra POPOVSKI, President of IATEFL International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, UK, who presented “Beyond the Classroom: A Call for Improved Working Conditions for Educators.”

And then from 10.00-15.00, teachers could choose among five parallel sessions presentations, and workshops on different topics related to education and English Language teaching.

The conference concluded at 15.00 with the conclusions and distribution of the certificates of participation.
