On Tuesday, 24 October 2023, the Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” and the specialists of the Catholic Hospital Our Lady of Good Counsel organized the annual day dedicated to the breast cancer prevention campaign, also known as “Pink October ". This year’s theme was “The patient at the centre. The impact of the Multidisciplinary Team in the Treatment of Breast Cancer".
Apart from prevention, the meeting's objective was to draw attention to a new reality in our community—namely, treatment and care—that extends beyond diagnosis. Numerous studies have demonstrated the enormous influence that a multidisciplinary team working together to provide the best therapy for these patients can have on patient survival.
The main topic of debate was how to treat the patient in all phases of therapy, in all its complexity and fullness, rather than just as a "bearer of a disease". Participants discussed the model of receiving treatment from a team of specialists as well as their own personal experiences.
"If you cure a disease, you win or you lose, but if you treat a person, I guarantee you that you win, you always win, whatever the outcome of the therapy."
