The Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” is pleased to share with the academic community and the public, the news of the selection for funding of two national research and development projects, led by Dr. Andia Guga from the Department of Architecture and Dr. Elisa Domi from the Department of Chemical-Toxicological and Pharmacological Evaluation of Drugs, within the framework of the call by the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation (AKKSHI).

The project "Structural Monitoring of the Tirana Academy of Arts Theater: Innovative Technology for the Preservation of Albanian Cultural Heritage" is an innovative initiative that brings advanced technology for the monitoring of historical structures to Albania for the first time. The project aims to develop and implement a continuous monitoring system for the Theatre of the Academy of Arts, to record in detail the behavior of the structure both under normal conditions (natural degradation) and in exceptional situations (earthquakes). Important international partners such as: University of Florence, TECNOPOLO D'Abruzzo, PALMERINI SCT, WEST AQUILA SRL and MGAD DESIGN also participate in this initiative. This multidisciplinary collaboration will enable the creation of replicable models for the protection of cultural heritage, combining engineering sciences with digital innovation and historic architecture.

The project "The Role of Mycotoxins in Oncology Patients" represents important research that addresses the link between the presence of mycotoxins in the body and neuropsychiatric symptoms in cancer patients. In the absence of national data on this issue, this project will, for the first time in Albania, carry out a systematic study on the types and effects of mycotoxins in oncology patients, in collaboration with the University Hospital Center of Tirana (QSUT), the University of Bari “Aldo Moro,” and the Italian research centers CNR and ISPA.

This project will contribute to improving the understanding of the impact of mycotoxins on the mental health of patients, as well as to the development of new health and social policies for this vulnerable group.

These projects are a testament to our university’s ongoing commitment to advancing scientific research at the national level, as well as to strengthening collaboration with local and international centers and partners. Wishing success to the working groups!
