Institutional Innovations for an Economy for the Common Good. The case of the Benefit Companies in Italy

CESPIC organized on April 21st, 2017, the convention entitled "Institutional Innovations for an Economy for the Common Good. The case of the Benefit Companies in Italy".

The European Center for the Science of Peace, Integration and Cooperation (CESPIC) of the Catholic University "Our Lady of Good Counsel", organized the convention entitled "Institutional Innovations for an Economy for the Common Good. The case of Benefit Companies in Italy ".

The conference will deal with the role of benefit companies and the opportunity of their introduction in Albania.

The Benefit Companies are a new legal form of company, introduced in Italy with the Stability Law 2016.  Inspired by the model of the Benefit Corporation (or B-Corp), of US origin, they also realize in Italy the aspiration of some companies to have a positive impact on the environment and society without giving up profits and dividends. To become a Benefit Company, it is necessary to insert in the statute "one or more purposes of common benefit" in carrying out its activities. The purposes must be achieved with responsibility, sustainability, and transparency, balancing the interest of the shareholders with the interest of the community. The new legal form of the Benefit Companies, therefore, distinct from the non-profit model, makes it possible for the same company to pursue both income and social purposes, incorporating its social mission into the business model.
