Getting the Residence Permit

Foreign nationals need to be provided with a residence permit under Law no. 108/2013 “FOR FOREIGNERS”, Article 52 (Residence Permit for Students and School Students) point 1, point 2 and point 3.


Foreign nationals need to be provided with a residence permit under Law no. 108/2013 “FOR FOREIGNERS”, Article 52 (Residence Permit for Students and School Students) point 1, point 2 and point 3.


1. The foreigner who has entered and resides in the Republic of Albania for study purposes at a public or private educational institution recognized by the Albanian State has the right to apply for a residence permit in accordance with the general criteria set out in Articles 34, 37 and 38 of this law.
 2. The foreigner, admitted to an educational institution, or attending vocational training or practice, is granted a residence permit, with a term no more than one year, when issued for the first time and may be extended each time by a year up to completion of school, studies or internship. If the duration of the course is less than one year, the duration of the residence permit is equal to the duration of the course.
3. The foreigner must prove that he is accepted by the educational institution, has sufficient knowledge of the language of education or training, and has sufficient financial means to live in the Republic of Albania during the studies. For the renewal of the residence permit, among other things, the foreigner has to prove on the progress made towards the studies, according to the legislation in force.
