Prof. Leonardo Palombi
I am full professor of Hygiene, Public Health and Epidemiology at the Tor Vergata University of Rome's Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. In this university, I held the positions of Head of Department, Senator, Dean of the School of Specialization in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, PhD program coordinator for Nursing Sciences and Public Health, and President of the study program in Prevention Sciences. I have been involved in humanitarian, emergency, and development interventions for many years, starting from Albania in the 90s. After that, I worked in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the Community of Sant'Egidio, which I joined at a young age, to battle AIDS in Mozambique and many other countries, as well as tuberculosis, first in Guinea Bissau.
I worked in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and more recently, I was involved with the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The enthusiasm for humanity is accompanied with research on the following topics: infantile malnutrition, major epidemics, public health information systems, preparedness for natural disasters and man-made disasters, welcoming refugees and strangers, in-home care, and assistance systems.
I firmly believe that friendship and unity, study and research are tools that can be used to develop that Christian "alternative imagination" that is able to address any issue and improve the future. I would like to share this vision of mine with the younger generations and the lecturers of Our Lady of Good Counsel University.
