As part of the European project "Harmonization of the Albanian Pharmaceutical Legislation with the European Pharmaceutical Directive" (PHARM-EU), included in the Jean Monnet Module and funded by the Erasmus+ program of the EU, the roundtable on Pharmacoeconomics was successfully held on March 25, 2025, with the participation of experts from the pharmaceutical and economic sectors. The event was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Malvina Hoxha, scientific organizer of the event, who informed the participants about the importance of pharmacoeconomics, emphasizing its fundamental role in optimizing healthcare resources and balancing innovation and economic sustainability in the pharmaceutical sector.
Prof. Roberto Perrone, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, welcomed the guests and highlighted the value of pharmacoeconomics in the pharmaceutical sector.
Prof. Fabrizio Gianfrate, Health Economics expert from the University of Ferrara, gave a detailed presentation on the key concepts of pharmacoeconomics, emphasizing its relevance in ensuring equitable access to medicines and optimal resource allocation.
Dr. Bujar Shala, Economic Consultant at the Scientific Research Center of Oslo University Hospital, illustrated strategies to improve the efficiency of pharmaceutical spending, analyzing the impact of pricing policies and providing practical examples of economic optimization in the healthcare sector.
To complement the discussion, Dr. Ermira Krasniqi contributed with a legislative overview, delving into the regulatory complexities related to pharmacoeconomics and discussing the implications of current regulations on pharmaceutical access policies in Kosovo.
Fifth-year Pharmacy students Kamila Domi, Frenki Çipi, Artejana Marku, Xhoana Tahiraj, and Chantal Koloneci provided insightful reflections on the challenges of conducting a pharmacoeconomics study, enriching the discussion with their perspectives.
The roundtable was concluded by the scientific coordinator of the PHARM-EU project, Assoc. Prof. Malvina Hoxha, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia and the professional sector in addressing pharmacoeconomics challenges and promoting a more equitable and efficient healthcare system.
